Sugar vs Fat - exploring shifts to and from traditional diets

Hello Year 13 BIO students,

If you missed some of the final lessons before the lockdown we discussed the increase in sugar in the modern diet and how a shift from traditional diets to high sugar and processed foods could be one reason why people today are at higher risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Please pay particular attention to the Mai Wiri initiative in Australia. Why did it work? Why did it eventually fail? Could this model be used to assist any of our communities in NZ?

Along a similar vein, please check out the videos titled My Big Fat Diet on the SSI page that were added. They explore an alternative approach within a First Nations community in Canada.

Your report requires you to report on different viewpoints and integrate ideas to produce YOUR plan for NZ. Have a go using these resources to assist you in your "prevention" assignment if it helps.
